For years, I watched the commercials for toothpaste products, all claiming to be recommended by 9 out of 10 dentists. I was curious what the last one recommended, it seemed they had the best answer to clean healthy teeth. I researched any natural alternatives to toothpaste, thinking this would be best for my teeth. I dove online to research any natural toothpastes I could discover. I also sought something I could make and bring with me while backpacking. I found a recipe which used coconut oil and baking soda, this seemed perfect for me. I decided to test it out for two weeks, and was pleasantly surprised to discover my teeth had grown whiter, coffee stains had lightened! The baking soda acts as an abrasive, which helps brush away the plaque and clean the crevices between the teeth. The coconut oil works as a natural antimicrobial, but don’t just take my word for it, check out this healthline article for more information.
The recipe I use is:
1/2 cup Coconut Oil
1 Tbs Baking Soda
The best part is this toothpaste costs less than $1 to make! Plus, it won’t take up to much space in the backpack. These ingredients have many other uses as well, which I will post later!
